Green Party principles

Serena Wootton with Amelia Womack

  • We believe that social and environmental justice are necessary and interdependent
  • Humankind depends on the diversity of the natural world for its existence - no species is expendable
  • The Earth's physical resources are finite - we must build a sustainable society that guarantees the long-term future of human kind and other species
  • Every person, in this and future generations, is entitled to basic material security
  • Our actions should take account of the well-being of other nations, other species, and future generations
  • A healthy society needs voluntary co-operation between empowered individuals in a democratic society, free from any type of discrimination
  • Democratic participation and accountability requires that decisions are taken at the closest practical level to those affected by them
  • We look for non-violent solutions to conflict situations
  • The success of a society should be measured by the factors affecting everyone's quality of life: personal freedom, social equity, health, happiness and human fulfilment
  • In addition to electoral politics, we will use a variety of methods, such as personal choice and lifestyle changes, to help achieve progress
